Today's mattress market has been flooded with foam mattresses - but do you ever wonder what is actually inside that pretty cover?  Before buying your next foam mattress, Corsicana Mattress Company highly recommends doing your homework on the different types of foam to ensure you find a mattress that perfectly complements your personal needs for comfort, health, and sleep style. We have provided high-level overviews of some of the most common types of foams found in mattresses on the market today.

  • Latex Foam: One of the first foams to be used in mattress manufacturing, latex foams are arguably more durable, but are considered to be less comfortable than new, innovative foam alternatives. Most latex foams are synthetic and produced from petrochemicals, but natural latex foams are also available.
  • Polyurethane Foam (also known as poly foam): Often used as a base, bottom layer inTypes of Mattress Foam mattresses, polyurethane foam can be produced either in either high or low-density formulations, can be easily compressed, but often is not as durable and does not provide as much support as latex foams.
  • Traditional Memory Foam: Visco elastic memory foam, a type of polyurethane foam loved and sought after for it's comfort and help with issues like pressure point relief, first gained traction under our feet, but has made it's way into our mattresses. While it has many great features, it also has a few drawbacks such as a reputation of sleeping too warm and often being less durable than latex foams.  Like latex foam, most traditional memory foams are manufactured with harsh chemicals - but natural memory foam alternatives are also available, manufactured using certified organic and natural components, no metals, and are not exposed to harmful chemicals during production.
  • Open-Cell Memory Foam: A variation of traditional memory foam designed to allow more air to flow through the mattress and offer a cooler night of sleep.
  • Gel-Infused Memory Foam: Another variation of traditional memory foam, gel-infused memory foam was designed to provide a cooler night of sleep, with many variations that take it to the next level of temperature regulation, keeping sleepers from getting too hot or too cold.
  • Copper-Infused Memory Foam: Like most of the newer memory foam formulations, copper-infused memory foam was developed for temperature regulation, and copper was introduced into the formulation because of it's thermal conductivity properties.
  • Graphite Gel-Infused Memory Foam: 7x better thermal conductivity than traditional memory foam, this new formulation provides the same great pressure relief and comfort, but through a wide range of temperatures without getting stiff at lower temperatures like conventional memory foam.
